Hi, I’m Ashlee, the creator of Healthy Hearty Wholesome. I’m based in Yorkshire, England, and I’ve been on a transformative journey towards better health and well-being. Over the years, I’ve lost over 100 lbs and I’m still going strong! But my story isn’t just about weight loss—it’s about healing, balance, and developing a deeper understanding of how the food we eat impacts our overall health.
My journey started as I struggled with several health conditions, including fibromyalgia, PCOS, and mental health challenges. As the physical toll became harder to bear, I knew something had to change. Along the way, I discovered how profoundly diet influences our well-being, and my passion for reducing ultra-processed foods was born. Back when I started, this idea was called ‘clean eating’, but for me, it’s always been about nourishing the body with real, whole foods.
My Mission: Helping You Overcome the Impossible
At one point, I felt like weight loss was impossible, especially because I struggled immensely with binge eating. Food addiction can feel like an unbeatable battle, but I’m here to tell you that success is possible. Once I started to overcome these challenges, I wanted to share my story and the recipes that helped me not only lose weight but also regain control over my eating habits. Now, I create low-calorie recipes that are simple, delicious, and free from the ultra-processed ingredients that often contribute to unhealthy eating habits.
My recipes aren’t just about cutting calories; they’re about healing your relationship with food. I genuinely believe that reducing ultra-processed foods is a key component to beating binge eating, which is why I make sure my recipes are nourishing, satisfying, and enjoyable.
Why HealthyHeartyWholesome Stands Out
HealthyHeartyWholesome is different from other so-called healthy recipe sites. I focus on creating genuinely low-calorie meals that don’t rely on tiny, unsatisfying portions. How many times have you seen recipes claiming to be “only 50 calories each,” only to find out that the cookies are the size of a thumbnail, or the portion sizes are laughably small? I’ve been there, and I know how frustrating that can be.
Instead, my recipes offer satisfying portions without compromising on flavour or health. I also avoid using artificial substitutes like powdered sweeteners—I focus on wholesome, natural ingredients. When you cut out ultra-processed foods, you’ll feel a noticeable difference in your energy, mood, and overall health. I promise, you’ll feel years younger and full of life when you fuel your body with the right food.
What You’ll Find on HealthyHeartyWholesome
As someone who loves food, I’m what’s known as a “volume eater.” I don’t believe in restricting myself to tiny portions. My recipes are designed for people like me who want to enjoy their meals while still keeping it healthy. They’re also simple to make—you won’t need to be a professional chef or hunt down exotic, expensive ingredients. My recipes are quick, easy, and accessible for everyone.
You’ll find a bit of everything on HealthyHeartyWholesome, from breakfasts to dinners, and snacks to desserts. I love experimenting with different cuisines, especially Chinese food and healthier takes on traditional British meals. There’s something for everyone here, whether you’re new to cooking or a seasoned home cook looking for healthier options.
A Little More About Me
Outside of the kitchen, I’m a mother, a lover of cats, and I’m passionate about fish and reptiles. I also have a deep love for nature and spending time in the great outdoors. Whether it’s a quiet forest, rolling hills, or a secluded beach, I find peace and inspiration in being surrounded by nature’s beauty.
In addition to running this blog, I’ve recently completed certifications in health and nutrition, as well as sports nutrition. My interest in understanding how food affects our health has grown into a desire to help others on a more personal level. I’m passionate about one day becoming a qualified nutritionist and dietitian, and I plan to pursue a degree in nutrition and dietetics. My ultimate goal is to provide the kind of support and guidance that wasn’t readily available to me when I began my journey.
