Granola With Seeds And Honey
Looking for a tasty, homemade breakfast that’s both nutritious and satisfying? This granola with seeds and honey is just that! Granola has long been enjoyed as a breakfast staple, typically made with oats, nuts, and a sweetener, then baked until golden and crisp. In this recipe, though, seeds play the starring role. By focusing on nutrient-rich ingredients, this granola becomes a powerhouse for anyone looking to incorporate more fibre, protein, and healthy fats into their diet. I chose to use a seed mix containing pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, linseeds and hemp seeds but you can use whatever seeds you enjoy. Using honey as a natural sweetener brings a touch of golden sweetness and added health benefits but you can also use maple syrup for a vegan version of this granola.
Is granola healthy?
This granola with seeds and honey is packed with nutrients, providing fibre, protein, and healthy fats from seeds like chia, pumpkin, and sunflower. These ingredients, along with oats, support digestive health, help regulate blood sugar, and provide long-lasting energy. Honey adds natural sweetness without refined sugars, and the Kallo cereal puffs help create a lighter texture. However, it’s important to note that while nutritious, this granola is also relatively high in calories. For anyone on a calorie-controlled diet, a modest 20g portion is recommended, which contains around 120 calories. This makes it easy to enjoy the nutritional benefits of this granola without exceeding your daily calorie goals.

Step 1: Preheat Oven
Start by preheating your oven to 150°C (300°F) and line a baking tray with parchment paper, ensuring the paper fully covers the tray with a little extra over the edges. This will keep the granola from sticking and make it easy to remove later without crumbling.
Step 2: Mix Ingredients
In a large bowl, combine 1.5 cups of jumbo rolled oats, 1/2 heaped cup of Kallo cereal puffs, and 1/2 cup of mixed seeds. Use your favourite seeds or a mix like pumpkin, chia, or sunflower seeds for variety and nutrition. Add 1/3 to 1/2 cup of honey, depending on your sweetness preference. Pour the honey directly over the dry ingredients, aiming to distribute it evenly. With a large spoon or spatula, mix until every oat, seed, and puff is lightly coated. The honey is essential for binding the mixture and creating clusters, so stir well to ensure even distribution.

Step 3: Bake Granola With Seeds
Once fully mixed, transfer the granola to your prepared baking tray, spreading it out into an even layer with the back of a spoon or spatula. Place the tray in the oven and bake for 20-25 minutes. About halfway through baking (10-12 minutes in), remove the tray from the oven, gently stir the granola with a spatula, and press it back down lightly to ensure it cooks evenly and forms clusters. This turning process will keep the edges from browning too quickly, so don’t skip it for the best results.

Step 4: Cool And Store
When the granola is a lovely golden brown and smells fragrant, remove the tray from the oven. Let it cool fully on the tray, as this allows the honey to set, creating the perfect crunchy clusters. Avoid handling it while it’s warm, as it may break apart easily. Once completely cool, break it up into clusters of your preferred size and store in an airtight container. Serve with yogurt and fresh fruit.
