Apple Chips Recipe With Dehydrated Apples

Do I need a dehydrator for this recipe?

I’m loving dehydrator recipes at the moment. Its opened up a whole world of new snack opportunities and not only do I love them but my son loves them too. These apple chips are a great healthy snack for toddlers, children and adults alike. They’re so easy to make but its not the quickest recipe as they are dehydrated at a low temperature for several hours to dry them out without burning them. You don’t need a specific dehydrator to make these apple chips, you can also make them in your oven on a very low heat.

Step 1: Choose an apple

This recipe only needs one ingredient for apple chips and that’s apples! Usually for apple recipes, I like to use granny smith apples as I feel they have the best taste and texture, however for this recipe I’ve chosen Royal Gala apples as I wanted a red skin on my apples too add a nice pop of colour to my apple chips. I did find that these apples definitely were not as sweet at granny smith apples though so that’s something to be considered when your choosing your apples. Grab 2 apples, slice them into thin slices, then optionally you can half them and remove the core.

Step 2: Dehydrate

Now as this recipe requires dehydrating, the easiest way for me to do that is to use my Ninja multicooker which has a dehydrate setting. If you don’t have a ninja or a dehydrator you can also use your oven at 60c-70c but make sure your temperature is no higher than this. Place your apple slices either onto your dehydrator shelves or a baking tray if using the oven. Set to dehydrate at 60c for 7 hours. After your 7 hours is up, your apple slices should be completely dried although if they are still warm they might still be slightly pliable.

Storing apple chips:

Store in an airtight container in a cool dry place. If your apples have been successfully dried out and contain no moisture then they should keep for months or maybe even years!
